Born and raised in Southern California, Lauri Fernandez discovered her passion for art at the age of 15 in a high school life drawing class. There, she realized drawing was more than just a technique; it was a powerful means of expression. As a shy teenager, finding her unique drawing style helped build her self-confidence, and she felt free to be herself in the supportive community of the art department. However, it wasn’t until later that she truly understood what moved her to create art.

Her spiritual connection to nature became clear as she grew up exploring Southern California’s beautiful landscapes on family trips and church retreats. The tranquility and beauty of nature stirred something deep within her, instilling a profound appreciation for the earth’s majesty. Lauri shares, “Being in harmony with the environment God created allows me to feel His calming and restorative powers.” Nature, to her, is not just inspiring but alive and continually regenerating.
Known for her detailed oil paintings and watercolors, Lauri Fernandez’s work focuses on capturing the tranquility and beauty found in nature. Her mission is deeply rooted in the belief that nature holds incredible power to positively impact our well-being, both physically and mentally. Through her landscape paintings, she aims to ignite a sense of awareness and appreciation for the natural world, inspiring intentional connection and fostering spaces of peace within homes.
“Calm Escape – Peaceful Creek and Stone Bridge” (2023)
This 24 x 18 inch oil on canvas offers a moment of tranquility, capturing an old stone bridge arching over a gently flowing creek. The textured bricks of the bridge and the lush greenery, painted in vivid greens, create a harmonious blend of craftsmanship and nature. Warm tones imbue the scene with a serene atmosphere, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the peaceful, pastoral setting.
“Bouquet” (2018)
In her studio, Lauri surrounds herself with inspiring images of nature and plays music that aligns with her mood. She explains, “Lighting is essential in my studio to see colors and details accurately. I also rely on a variety of brushes to create desired effects and express different emotions in my work. The music can be anything from soft piano or classical to Frank Sinatra, 70’s folk rock, or Broadway show tunes, depending on the emotion or energy I need to fuel my creativity.”
In her own words, “My intent is not necessarily to duplicate an object or landscape, but instead to expose its essence and complexity.” This philosophy is evident in her use of various mediums, including oil, watercolor, and sometimes relief printmaking, to create compositions, textures, and effects of light.
